The “Jathika Namal Uyana” houses Sri Lanka’s own Rose Quartz range and is also the Largest Ironwood forest and is declared as National Heritage site.The entrance to this amazing trek is 7 km away from the Madatugama Junction of the Colombo to Anuradhapura highway. An Ironwood Tree is an endemic tree to Sri Lanka and Jathika Namal uyana has 260 acres full of it.
Studies show that Namal uyana houses more than 100 Species of Tropical plants out of which almost 82 are herbal plants. A number of mammals including Elephants and Deers can be found here. You can also find up to 18 species of Birds living in this area.
The Rose Quartz range which is found is not only the largest range found in Sri Lanka, but it is believed that it is the largest range in all of Asia.This Pink Quartz is an extremely valuable mineral which is mostly used in Jewellery.
