The Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre is a fully equipped performance center which is used for large-scale theatrical productions. Prior to becoming the Nelum Pokuna Theatre is was the National Performing Arts Theatre. Opened on the 15th of December 2011. Nelum pokuna translates to the lotus pond, and the inspiration for this building comes from the Nelum Pokuna which was built in Polonnaruwa by King Parakramabahu the Great.
This Landmark spreads over 14,000 square meters of floor area. The theatre offers two venues for performances, The main auditorium, and the open-air amphitheater. Many performances and conventions take place at this location regularly including motor shows and musical programs.
