Hummanaya Blow Hole


Second Largest Blowhole in the world

          Located 12 km from the city of Tangalle likes the Hummanaya Blowhole. A Blowhole is a natural phenomenon which occurs when seawater runs through a submerged cave and is pushed upwards. Due to the water running underneath the shore, pressure causes it to explode out of the blowhole. In simple words, it is a water fountain which shoots up every couple of minutes depending on the roughness of the sea. The Hummanaya Blowhole is the only known blowhole found in Sri Lanka; It is also considered to be the second largest Blowhole in the world.
