Dondra Lighthouse


Lighthouse of Dondra

         Dondra Head Lighthouse is the lighthouse which is found on the southmost point of Sri Lanka, Dondra Head. It is approximately 6km away from the city of Matara. Opened in the year 1887 it was designed by Sir James Nicholas Douglass. Dondra Head lighthouse is one of the few lighthouses in Sri Lanka which houses a large hyper-radiant Fresnel Lens.

         It stands at 161 feet and contains 7 floors. It underwent development in the year 2000 and was improved on. Dondra Head Lighthouse is also one of the four international Lighthouses in Sri Lanka.
