The Doric at Arippu

Found in the Arippu East district of Mannar, The Doric was the residence of the First British Governor of Ceylon. The Building was planned by the Fredrick North, the governor himself, and later on, became known as the Doric due to the Doric’s architectural design which resembled the Ancient Greek Doric order style. It is a two-story house with the exterior of the house being decorated with “chunam”, which is made from the lime of the Burnt oyster shells. What makes this exterior decoration unique is how the “chunam” gives the exterior a marble look.
